Michelle Obama makes Ashley Olsen's dreams come true as she wears $1,170 The Row skirt on U.S. television.
In an interview last year, Ashley Olsen said that she would love to see Michelle Obama wear one of her designs. Now, it seems, her dream has come true. The U.S. First Lady wore a skirt from The Row, the label Miss Olsen, 24, designs with her twin sister Mary-Kate, on The View last week. Mrs Obama, who appeared on the show with Jill Biden, teamed the pale grey pleated Evelyn skirt, worth $1,170 with a cream V-neck and kitten-heel shoes. Making dreams come true: Michelle Obama wore a design by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's label The Row for her appearance on The View last week 'The skill set is here. Our main issue is that some of the machinery is gone, so some knitwear is produced in Italy. 'But whether it's clothing or cars, I believe in manufacturing as close to home as possible.' The sisters even went to Washington DC last year to lobby the White House in a bid to highlight the importance of the garment industry in the U.S. Thrilled: Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen admitted in an interview last year that they would love to see Mrs Obama wear their designs In August last year, Ashley told Harper's Bazaar: 'I'd love to get Michelle Obama in The Row.' And though celebrity fashion lines are usually received with some cynicism, the Olsen twins have proved their critics wrong. Their company, Dualstar, has annual sales of $1billion, and last month The Row was nominated for a coveted CFDA award in recognition of their creative achievements.

Newsweek caught up with Mary-Kate & Ashley at their New York studio & factory, I've added 2 photos from the photocall taken by Andrew Hetherington for Newsweek to the gallery.
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, whom most people know as the diminutive former child stars of Full House and an endless stream of straight-to-video tween movies, are inspecting a rolling rack of crisp white cotton shirts and another one lined with black stretch-leather leggings seemingly sized for miniature gazelles. The sisters and the clothes are crowded onto an exceedingly unglamorous factory floor in New York’s garment center. The L-shaped workspace, brightly lit with fluorescent lights, smells vaguely of steam irons and fried rice.
This is the Olsens’ new reality, one that has replaced a childhood lived on Hollywood backlots and an adolescence spent in the glare of the paparazzi. They built a billion-dollar empire on the cult of celebrity, adoring kiddie fans, and a vast array of tchotchkes. Now they are creating something else entirely. Against significant odds, the Olsens have found grown-up respectability and social purpose in the unforgiving world of high-end fashion with the success of their womenswear brand, The Row.
